DNF.
But… twist.
There are more pages marked in this book than any in recent memory. The author is very smart, and I was intrigued by many of his insights.
My therapist told me about this book. He was all about Rites of Passage, stating that nearly all civilizations outside the United States have them.
Well, maybe not civilizations but… cultures.
In my subsequent conversations with others like — and unlike — me, the notion of why was ever present.
Is it because the US has such a melting pot of cultures? Is it because straying away from such rites was a good thing?
I don’t know.
Thought provoking as it was, I grew impatient waiting on the “fix.” This book seemed to be just a lot of talking about it.
My therapist also groaned that as Westerners, we always need to know what to do. And we can’t ever relax and let it all just be so.
Well… label me a Renegade Cowboy, and loop me in with the rest of those rotten American stereotypes.
Most of them are probably accurate.
