Once Narnia was over, I got a huge stack of books that I thought my kids would enjoy listening to, and I put them on a table in their room.
This one was placed on top, and a dictatorship was established to enforce what book would be read first.
To my complete elation, they loved it.
As of this writing, we are making good ground in The Fellowship of the Ring, which could be the greatest book of all time.
I do not expect my kids to love everything I love. I dread the teenage years at times, but while I have their ear, I definitely intend to pump them full of Middle Earth lore.
It goes without saying that those nights where they’re all laying on top of me for an hour while all else is quiet — and my vocal chords are begging me to give them a break — are the most cherishable.
“Are we reading Lord of the Rings tonight?”
Hell yeah we are, dude.
