When Poe wrote The Raven, he saw a friend on the street and recited it to him, claiming that he had just written the greatest poem ever.
Poe’s parents were performers, actors. And he had a flair for the dramatic.
So he finishes his act, and his friend says, “That’s just fine!” intending to truly compliment.
Poe responded, “Just fine?! I tell you, it’s the greatest poem ever!”
And it might be. It really might be.
