Poe suggested that all of Heaven halted to hear Israfel and that the angel could sing so beautifully because of its surroundings.

And perhaps if the same angel could swap places with the author,

“He might not sing so wildly well

A mortal melody.”

The last word of which is meant to rhyme with “sky.”
