I looked up “villanelle” because I thought it was a Spanish word.

It might be.

But it’s a poem structure. Like the one written.

I hate it.

Because…

She broke the fourth wall. I despise breaking the fourth wall. It’s why I don’t like the Deadpool movies.

Yes, Ryan Reynolds can be funny, but I am a firm believer in movies being movies. There is no audience. What I see on the screen is really happening. I don’t want to be talked to as if I exist. I want to watch a story.

So this poem. This villanelle. She broke the fourth wall. And I don’t think it’s clever.

Don’t let the audience know you’re there.

Not in poetry. Not in a song.

The story is really happening. It’s in the middle of taking place.
